Mark and his team did an outstanding job on our cabinetry and woodwork in our new home. Mark told Dave and I to find a picture of the fireplace we liked and provide it to him. Mark then created a replica of the fireplace. This custom built fireplace is one of our favorite things in the house. Gudenkauf Construction put an addition on my house (expanded my kitchen and added a screened in room). Mark not only built the space, but he consulted and helped me with every detail along the way. From start to finish, Mark and his team were fantastic to work with – they were respectful of my time, planned and kept my “downtime” to a minimum, worked strategically around the winter weather, clean up every day to ensure my living areas were kept comfortable, and just had overall respect for and patience with me. After receiving a BS in Community and Regional Planning from Iowa State University in 1992 Mark worked as a county planner in Dekalb, Illinois. He quickly learned the importance of building inspections, zoning laws (including variations, zoning amendments, and permitted /non permitted uses), environmental impacts of building and the importance of working with the city/county governments to minimize the negative impact for all. Most importantly, he learned how to work well with people.
